Finally I have the time to pick up and finish this post. I started writing it in April you guys.
Talk about struggles. Let me give the bit I had in my drafts first ________________________________________
I've gone back and forth with the idea of making my own wig for what seems like forever. I think since I started college.
I just knew how lazy I was and always nipped my random bursts of "okay I can do this" in the bud before even trying to start. I knew I would end up with an unfinished mess on my hands.
Let alone the expense of purchasing the hair, the cap, the sewing tools, the wig head - all that could have gone to buying new clothes and shoes; the logic of ME.
Funny enough I got into the habit of wearing wigs just last summer which means I wanted to make them earlier than I felt comfortable pulling them off... apparently.
Well that's the backstory. I've currently been wearing synthetic type lace fronts from wigtypes, divatress, etc... for quite some time now and for this coming season of spring I was planning to do the same.
Only I was not for the options that came under the style I wanted.
I was looking for an authentic looking ombre kinky curly wig and the synthetic market just wasn't appealing to me. Authentic and synthetic; yea I should have known.

Synthetic
vs...
Human hair
^^^
The difference may seem tiny to some but definitely not to me (self proclaimed wig aficionada). No ma'am.
Although the synthetic scene has been stepping it's game up, human hair wigs did this one better.. and the broke college girl in me was so stressed about that.
However it didn't take long to rationalize sewing together my own wig, by budgeting costs, and getting this "perfect ombre" done on my own.
Without hesitation I hit the Buy Now on 4 bundles of 5A Mongolian kinky curly hair from Ali Express (stretched lengths 12inch & 14inch & 16inch & 18inch) I'd say about 4-5 days passed between the order and delivery from China and the lady, Julie, was very nice and easy to contact.
So now I had the hair and the actual work needed to be done.

Well that's all I had in April.
Guess it goes without saying I made the wig but chose not to dye the bundles due to complications.
I have no regrets though. The main reason I wanted the human hair in the first place was lost, but I'm proud of myself for getting this done. I made a U- part wig with the use of a dome cap, wig head, weaving thread and curved needle. I did it. And it looks amazing for an amateur's go.
It's been months since my first wear and the hair's holding up. Wigs are always better for me because you can remove them and sleep peacefully without worrying what positions will tangle the hair. My units tend to last a really long time and being this is human hair; I plan for it to last a while.
I wash it regularly, wear it out a lot, and yes there's shedding but it's not extensive. Maybe somewhere along the line I'll carry out my initial dye plan but I've actually grown attached to the straight color.
Now on to the pictures. Here's as much as I remembered to document of the process from receiving my package to thinking I still wanted to dye it. From washing it, to sewing it, to styling it. Again I'm so happy with the results. It's a simple do; but for me it's my open door to who knows what will be my next project.
The needles, thread, and wig head are from Sally's. Dome cap and sealing glue for the wefts are from Amazon. And here's the hair link: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/On-sale-5A-Mongolian-kinky-curly-hair-Mongolian-virgin-hair-bundle-deals-100-human-hair-mongolian/2037247027.html I'm not lying when I say beyond beautiful quality, my only negative would be that the ends came a bit frizzy, so I'd recommend ordering longer lengths and then trimming the frizz, otherwise thumbs up to the vendor.
